Dermaplaning Auckland
Smooth, Bright Skin. Gentle Exfoliation, Rooted in Japanese Skin Care Philosophy.

Dermaplaning is a precise, physical exfoliation treatment that removes the fine surface layer of dead skin cells and facial hair - what is commonly known as peach fuzz - using a sterile surgical blade held at a specific angle against the skin.
The result is immediately smoother, brighter skin. Skincare absorbs more effectively. Makeup sits flawlessly. And without the dead cell layer, your skin simply looks more alive.
At En Beauty, dermaplaning is paired with a deeply hydrating mask and a Japanese Scalp Lift - a combination unique to this studio, and one that extends the benefit of the treatment well beyond the surface of the skin.

What happens at your appointment
Your appointment begins with a brief consultation and skin assessment. The therapist will look at your skin type, current condition, and any sensitivities before proceeding.
The dermaplaning itself is a methodical, unhurried process. The therapist works across the face in short, careful strokes, removing the outermost layer of dead skin and fine facial hair. Most clients describe the sensation as a light scraping - unusual on first experience, but entirely comfortable.
Following the exfoliation, a deeply hydrating mask is applied to calm, nourish and restore the skin while it is at its most receptive. The appointment closes with the Japanese Scalp Lift - a therapeutic scalp and cranial massage technique drawn from Japanese wellness practice that releases tension across the scalp, face and neck.
Total treatment time: 1 hour.

Dermaplaning, sometimes called epiblading or dermaplaning facial, is a professional skin treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to physically exfoliate the surface of the skin. It removes the accumulation of dead skin cells from the outer layer of the epidermis, along with fine vellus facial hair, revealing the fresher skin beneath.

Unlike chemical exfoliation methods such as acid peels, dermaplaning achieves its effect through precise physical technique rather than chemistry. There is no pH disruption, no acid reaction and no risk of the skin barrier being compromised in the process.
At En Beauty, dermaplaning sits within a broader philosophy of gentle, effective skin care rooted in Japanese skincare tradition. The treatment can be followed by a hydrating mask and the Japanese Scalp Lift, creating a complete appointment rather than a single isolated procedure.

Frequently asked questions
Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about dermaplaning. Vellus hair - fine facial hair - does not have the follicle structure to become coarser when cut. It grows back exactly as it was before. This has been confirmed repeatedly in clinical research and by the experience of practitioners worldwide.
Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?
Not quite. Professional dermaplaning uses a specific sterile surgical blade held at a precise angle, applied with controlled technique across the contours of the face. The intent and outcome are also different - dermaplaning removes the outermost dead skin layer as well as the hair, producing a skin resurfacing result that at-home shaving does not.
What is the Japanese Scalp Lift and why is it included as an extra option?
The Japanese Scalp Lift is a therapeutic scalp and cranial massage technique from Japanese wellness practice. It releases tension held across the scalp, temples and neck - tension that directly affects how the face looks and feels. It is included as an extra option because after the skin has been prepared and nourished, this technique extends the treatment's effect to the whole head and face, not just the surface of the skin.
How often can I have dermaplaning?
Approximately every 4-6 weeks, which aligns with the skin's natural renewal cycle. Doing it more frequently than this does not allow the skin sufficient time to regenerate. Your therapist will advise on the right interval for your skin.
Is there any downtime after dermaplaning?
No. Dermaplaning has no downtime. The skin may look slightly flushed immediately after, which settles within a few hours. Avoid strong active skincare products and direct sun exposure for 24 hours and apply SPF before going outside.
Can I have dermaplaning if I have sensitive skin?
Dermaplaning is often well-suited to dry or sensitised skin, as it provides physical exfoliation without the pH disruption caused by acid-based treatments. However, it is not suitable for actively reactive, inflamed or broken skin. Your therapist will assess your skin at consultation and confirm whether to proceed.
